Former SMTI Team Members

Jason Parker
Founding Member
Artistic Director, 2020-2024
Jason was the Director of Choirs and Drama at Squalicum High School from 2015-2023. In 2023 he relocated to New London, MN and now serves as the Director of Choirs at New London-Spicer School District. (We were lucky enough that he came back to SMTI in Summer of 2024 to direct Mean Girls!) During his time at SQHS, he directed all mainstage productions, advised Drama Club, and mentored students who were directing one acts with their peers for the SQHS One Act Play Festival. Prior to his appointment at Squalicum, Jason served in various capacities in educational theatre including roles as Music Director, Pit Conductor, Technical Director, as well as Artistic Director. His experiences have given him a broad view of educational theatre and its benefits for students. As our Artistic Director, Jason oversaw the “Big Picture” and focused on music, acting, staging, and choreography. He believes in the power of theatre through an educational process and was proud that SMTI brought together students from across schools for summer collaboration. He is a founding member of SMTI, and we miss having his incredible talents on our team!

Connie Campbell
Founding Member
Music Director, 2020-2024
Connie is the Director of Choirs at Bellingham High School where she administers the choir program, teaches AP Music Theory, Unified Music, and Piano/Keyboarding as well as leading the Whatcom Middle School Choir Club. SMTI's “Mean Girls” was her 26th high school production! Before coming to Bellingham, she served for 10 years as the Director of Choirs at Woodland Park High School in Colorado. Connie holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Northern Arizona University and a master’s degree in choral conducting from the University of Miami. She has loved musical theater since the 4th grade, when her children’s choir was included in a university production of “Oklahoma!” She caught the theater bug, even though she ended up taking her bows with only one shoe. In addition to productions in public schools, Connie has served as music director for community, college repertory, and children’s church productions. Connie has moved on from SMTI, in part to focus on building a nonprofit community youth choir to supplement music education in the greater Bellingham area during the middle school years. (Please check out Bellingham Youth Choir if your 5th-8th grader wants to sing!) She is a founding member of SMTI, and we miss her expertise and hilarity on our team!

Sam Grubbs
Choreographer, 2022-2024
Sam Grubbs is a dance teacher and choreographer out of Seattle and Bellingham. She is a graduate of Western Washington University with degrees in English and Modern Dance and a Master in teaching. Her previous works include SMTI’s Mamma Mia, Legally Blonde, and Mean Girls, as well as years of experience teaching at The Dance Studio! Sam has relocated but we would rejoice if she moved back to Bellingham and wanted to choreograph for SMTI again!
